In an exhilarating, once-in-a-lifetime adventure such as the FWD North Pole Marathon, the journey is the destination.
In preparation for the 42-kilometer race on the northernmost point of the world, FWD PH runner Louie Sangalang will be guided by a coach he knows very well. A coach he trusts with his life.
Joining The Squad to guide, train, and support Louie on his journey to conquer the North Pole is Coach Miguel “Ige” Lopez. An ace marathoner and triathlete, Coach Ige is one of the most sought-after coaches in the country, training both athletes and celebrity runners. His sports background spans road and off-road triathlon, ultra-running, mountaineering, adventure racing, mountain biking, and road biking—practically all types of endurance sports.
Coach Ige got his Level 2 Triathlon Coaching Certification from the International Triathlon Union in Singapore. Having been in the coaching industry for more than 10 years, he has worked and trained runners from all age groups, from amateurs to former members of the national team, from celebrities to top executives.

Coach Ige Lopez has known Louie since college and has coached and trained with him for years. He is confident that Louie can withstand and conquer the surreal and extreme North Pole conditions and definitely ace the World’s Coolest Marathon.
Under the guidance of Coach Ige, Louie will develop and reinforce his pace, power, and ultra-endurance. Part of his strategy is to help Louie reach his highest mileage and keep his overall fitness and nutrition, building his aerobic engine, and implement long running and strengthening workouts—all these to make Louie Sangalang 100% ready for the World’s Coolest Marathon!
